Sean Delaney was a husband, father, brother and friend. He was also a successful businessman and a founding partner of Genuity Capital Markets. Sean had a quick wit and an outlandish sense of humour. He was the life of the party. On February 2, 2007, Sean died from an allergic reaction to peanuts while on a hunting trip to Mexico. He was 40 years old.
To honour Sean’s memory and to raise awareness about food allergies, the Annual Sean Delaney Memorial Golf Classic takes place each year in support of Food Allergy Canada’s projects and partners. This June, the Tenth Annual Sean Delaney Memorial Golf Classic (held at the beautiful Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario), raised more than $600,000 in support of Food Allergy Canada’s education initiatives and the important research at McMaster University’s Research Centre on Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis. Over the past 10 years, the tournament has raised more than $3.9 millions for research and education.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the friends, family and colleagues of Sean Delaney. The event organizing committee – led by Kiki Delaney and Robbie Pryde – included Bruce Croxon, Stephen Delaney, David Delaney, Mike Delaney, Sandy Delaney, John Esteireiro, Laurie Harada, Lori Heller, Molly Hidi, David Morrison, Olivia Weir and Tammy White.
For the past decade, their fundraising efforts have made it possible for us to offer crucial information and education resources to Canadians in both official languages, all free of charge. This includes our Living Confidently with Food Allergies handbook and Newly Diagnosed Support Centre for parents, our AllergyAware.ca e-learning courses, our mentoring and education programs for kids, teens and adults, the launch of our new bilingual website and so much more.
Their continued support for McMaster University’s allergy research also brings hope for a better tomorrow, with a cure.
