Happy Fall, everyone! Here’s some of what’s new with us at Food Allergy Canada.

The anaphylaxis guidelines for schools have been updated
The Anaphylaxis in Schools & Other Settings, Third Edition Revised resource has recently been released by the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, in collaboration with Food Allergy Canada and other allergy organizations. This edition reflects the removal of references to Allerject® auto-injectors and other minor changes; also included is an updated Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan form. The form is also now available online as a fillable form.

New Allergy Awareness Challenge: elementary edition
We are proud to launch the Allergy Awareness Challenge for elementary students! Just like our Allergy Awareness Challenge for high school students, it is a fun and helpful way to teach students about food allergies. It includes: presentations and a resource guide for teachers; student worksheets; games and activities; allergy info sheets; and promotional materials. This innovative program helps young students learn about food allergies and support their fellow classmates with food allergies. It also clarifies why it’s important to respect school food allergy policies.

2016 recipients of the Sabrina Shannon Memorial Award
Congratulations to Emily Rose Belbin (Georgetown, ON) and Whitney Walls (Quispamsis, NB), the recipients of the seventh annual Sabrina Shannon Memorial Award. This award is dedicated to the life of Sabrina Shannon, an inspiring teenager who suffered a fatal anaphylactic reaction in 2003. Since her passing, Sabrina’s parents and other members of the allergy community have kept her spirit alive by advocating for allergy-safe schools and communities.

We are proud to honour Sabrina’s memory. The Sabrina Shannon Memorial Award is made possible through an educational grant from TD Securities.  Read more about this year’s winners. 

New! Allergy aware courses for parents and others
Food Allergy Canada has launched a free online course for parents and others, Anaphylaxis in the Community, developed with Leap Learning Technologies Inc. and in collaboration with the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

The course is available in English and French and is especially designed for people with potentially life-threatening allergies and those who care for them. We also continue to offer our Anaphylaxis in Schools course for educators.
