New support group launches in Saskatoon – a message from the co-chairs of The Saskatoon Anaphylaxis Support Group.
We are Charlene Siwak and Michele Jungwirth, the co-chairs for The Saskatoon Anaphylaxis Support Group, a newly formed support group in Saskatchewan. We are really excited and looking forward to bringing education, support, resources and information to individuals and families living with anaphylaxis.
We are a couple of moms (and friends) with children that have been diagnosed with food allergies. After diagnosis, we struggled to find the information and support that we needed in order to live and cope with their allergies. We also recognized the need to educate our children, family, friends and the communities we lived in about anaphylaxis and how to manage it. We started the group, through Food Allergy Canada, to provide support and information to people with allergies and a warm and caring environment for people to share their concerns.
Our aim is to support individuals with allergies, their families, their friends and the community, through educational meetings which we will be hosting three to four times a year. You will get help in dealing with the day-to-day stress of being at risk for anaphylaxis.
Our first anticipated meeting will be held on November 29th, 2016 from 7pm-8pm at Ecole St. Matthew Elementary School (1508 Arlington Avenue, Saskatoon) where we will have a meet and greet and also talk about Food Allergy Canada’s holiday tips.

Win prizes for your school with the Allergy Friendly Food Drive
Food Allergy Canada, together with Canadian race car driver, Alex Tagliani stopped in to visit local schools across Canada to talk to students about food allergies and the Allergy Friendly Food Drive Challenge. Having food allergies himself, Alex knows the challenges faced by those at risk, especially when it comes to selecting safe options.
Alex visited schools in Winnipeg, Calgary and Ottawa with over 1,700 students in attendance. A big thank you to the school communities of Brock Corydon School (Winnipeg), St. Mary School (Okotoks) and Mary Honeywell (Nepean) for welcoming us into their schools.
There’s still an opportunity for Alex to visit your child’s school and win 15 Apple iPad tablets. To be eligible for these awesome prizes, have your child’s school host an allergy-friendly food drive during a 10-day challenge running anytime between November 14-December 9, 2016.
This joint initiative, undertaken by Alex and Food Allergy Canada, with the support of Pfizer Canada (Canadian distributor of EpiPen®), reaches out to Canadians from coast to coast and helps local food banks while educating about food allergies.
